Ronan Recommends

Galway "City of the Tribes" is a truly great destination and probably best known for its festivals and its nightlife.

However ,in my view Galway's greatest strength is its position as a base for visiting the beautiful west of Ireland.

Seeing the West of Ireland:

From Galway you can take day tours with our partner companies to 1. The Cliffs of Moher 2. Connemara 3. the Aran Islands. If you have the time I recommend that you do all three . Of course, if you have more time you can spend more time at our hostels in Connemara and/or in The Burren County Clare, close to The Cliffs of Moher.

Tours to The Cliffs and to Connemara leave and return from the front door of Sleepzone Galway City.

If you have time in the region check with us about what's going on just outside Galway also, particularly in mid-summer

Festivals:

If planning a trip to Galway check if your visit coincides with one of Galway's many famous festivals. To my mind, the best is the Galway International Arts Festivalwhich takes place each July, but throughout the year there are literature Festivals, Comedy Festivals, Traditional Music Festivals.

Nightlife:

If you want a crazy weekend come to Galway on a Saturday night; if you want things a little calmer I believe the city is at its best on Wednesday and Thursday nights through the summer - lots on but a bit calmer !

Food and Drink:

We can give you great information at the reception in accordance with what you want to do.
If you're looking for a traditional west of Ireland pub in the heart of Galway City then ' O'Neachtain's ' is a favourite. Galway has many great restaurants for a city of its size . If you're on a tight budget maybe they don't all suit but remember that many are doing great early bird meals these days if you go out a little earlier, so you can eat top food at more modest prices. My favourites around town are ' Ard Bia at Nimmo's' ; Martine's ; Blake's Brasserie to name but a few.

En route to/from Galway on The Wild Atlantic Way  consider Paddy Coynes Pub at Tully Cross in Connemara;  ' Moran's on the Weir' at Kilcolgan for great seafood; The Tea and Garden Rooms in Ballyvaughan; Vasco in Fanore, and Kieran's Kitchen in The Roadside Tavern & Microbrewery, directly across the road from The Burren Hostel
