Starting from Lisdoonvarna, the route heads off anti-clockwise along the R476 to Kilfenora home to the Burren Display Centre, which tells you about the district. The adjoining ruined cathedral has a beautifully sculptured high cross. Continue on the R476 to the ruin of Leamaneh Castle, the former home of Maire Ruadh back in the 17th century.
Turing left at the castle, the route head north along the R480 to Ballyvaughan. On the way, there are numerous placed of historic interest, but keep an eye out for the Dolmen and the Aillwee Caves both of which are significant tourist attractions. The latter provides visitors with an opportunity to enter into the bowels of the Burren, to indulge in the local café treats and to take time out to admire the spectacular scenery of the ‘Rock Garden of Ireland’/ The route back to Lisdoonvarna is via Ballyvaughan, (turn left on to the N67 and Corkscrew Hill; low gears required).
On reaching the top of the climb, pause to admire the view before heading towards your destination and a well-earned rest. This is a journey that will harbour lasting memories of a unique countryside.
